Whilst we are proud to say our workforce is much more diverse than it once was we still have a way to go to achieve our ambitious targets of making our service more representative of our community.

Why is this important?
It is only when we are more representative of our community that we can fully understand what the community needs from us, to get into communities that are difficult to reach, and be satisfied that we are understanding, delivering and truly making a difference to every person who resides in West Yorkshire.
We want to recruit the best Firefighters who will represent our Service and have a long and successful career with us irrespective of gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation – we don’t want any under-represented groups to feel that it is not the job for them because of outdated stereotypes.
